What if Diabetes, Didn’t have to be so challenging?

I’m Jelina and there is nothing that disheartens me more than to watch people with Type 2 Diabetes feel helpless and struggle with their condition. 

This is heartbreaking for several reasons…

1.     They never experience FREEDOM because they constantly worry about what they eat and how it will impact their health.

2.     They never experience a more FULFILLING LIFE with better health that allows them to participate in activities they love like playing with kids, grandkids or loved ones or be more physically active like to go on walks or hikes without feeling tired.

3.     They lose CONFIDENCE because they have tried so many diets, exercises and medications and still cannot achieve the results they desire of lower blood sugars, weight loss or having more energy.

People are not properly educated on how to handle their diabetes.  Healthcare providers often do not have the time to teach patients how diabetes works and the proper methods to address it. 

The current Healthcare system neglects to treat the WHOLE person and usually only addresses the biological aspect of the disease. 

But what you might not realize (and believe me, I didn’t realize this either at the beginning) is that treating your diabetes HOLISTICALLY will transform your health.

 By treating not only the physical part of your body, but also focusing on your mental, emotional, and spiritual sides, you can control your diabetes, lose weight, have more energy, and manage any other health issues you are experiencing. 

Believe me, I know what’s it’s like to:

  • Struggle with my weight despite the low number of calories I ate or the amount of exercise I did

  • Feel overwhelmed with the amount of information that is constantly changing about which foods are healthy

  • Worry about my health, especially my blood sugars, as my doctor told me it was a matter of time before I had diabetes

  • Loathe working out long hours at the gym to find that the scale has not budged or even went in the wrong direction, and my health didn’t seem to be really improving

  • Be jealous of friends and family who could seem to eat whatever they wanted and maintain their weight and health

And today, after years of working on healing myself through trial and error and using these successful techniques on my patients with Type 2 Diabetes, I’m here to show you how much easier it can be to manage your diabetes without counting calories, being stuck at the gym for hours or taking countless prescriptions.

I’m so passionate about this because I’ve once been in your shoes.  I felt helpless to my health and my weight.  I was depressed, overwhelmed, and confused.  I just wanted to live a happier life and have my body reflect that.  I want you to have the joy of living your best life and move forward feeling empowered. 

 

My Approach

 
 

I know you have many options when it comes to investing in your health, so let me share a few ways that working with me is unique.

I have worked with hundreds of patients with Type 2 Diabetes and was able to help several patients lower their A1c an average of 3.4% in 2 months.  In some cases, patient’s came off medications such as insulin and/or labs came back as if they did not have Diabetes.

I have a unique approach tying in not only discussing how the medication works, but discussing the way food can positively or negatively affect your body.  We discuss types of foods, when to eat and I never completely eliminate a food group.

My philosophy to limit medications as much as possible, and learn alternative techniques to help the body heal itself including using my training from Yoga, learning about trauma and the body, using my education on the microbiome, and neuroscience to treat all aspects of you.  Treat you as an ENTIRE BEING.

  • I’m a licensed, active pharmacist both in the State of California (since 2020) and Colorado (since 2007).  I graduated with a doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD.) from the University of Colorado Health Science Center in 2007.

  • I have a BA in Biochemistry from Whittier College.

  • I have an Advance Practice Pharmacist License.

  • I am Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy as well as Board Certified in Ambulatory Care.

  • I have a Certificate for Patient Centered Diabetes Care and a Certificate for Medication Therapy Management.

  •  I am a Certified Yoga Instructor from YogaWorks, Inc

  •  I am also certified to give Immunizations.

  •  I’ve spent 15 years assisting patients and specifically the past few years dedicated to people with Type 2 Diabetes and transforming their lives by helping them learn to control their blood sugars.

A few things you might Not know about me:

I am obsessed with my Havanese dog named Manhattan (Manny for short).  I love to cook, travel, read (I am a bookworm as I read a book a week), listen to podcasts, have a thirst for learning, love yoga, meditating, the theater, spending quality time with friends/family, and moving my body.  I really enjoy the beach and building connection.  I moved to California April 2020 to answer my soul’s calling to be out west and have loved it.

I am the oldest of 3.  My brother and sister in law live in Denver, Colorado with their two dogs.  My parents and sister live in a suburb north of Chicago.  I am very close to my family and value my friendships. 

 I also have been reading palms and tarot cards from a young age.  It has been something that has always fascinated me.

 I am grateful for finding connections in my life that helped me find this path to health and wellness so that I can pass it along to my future patients.
